BAIKAL - Baikal - cd
imprec119 - CD - $11.99
Baikal is a new burner from Bardo Pond brothers
John & Michael Gibbons along with fellow Bardo Pond
members Clint Takeda and Jason Kourkonis. This
time they ventured down the route of heavy free-improvisation and
a Last Exit style hard rock approach coupled with a hard psych bend.
With two tracks each weighing in at over 30 minutes in length it's
clear that Baikal is a deep voyage underseas with yet another mindblowing
Bardo Pond sideproject featuring Bardo brothers John & Michael
Gibbons as your tour guide and it's a heavy trip indeed.

Alasehir is the project of Bardo Pond brothers
John and Michael Gibbons with drummer Michael
Zangha. Unlike the Gibbons' project Alumbrados,
also being released on Important at the same time, Alasehir
is more rock oriented, establishing a heady, heavy groove
and jamming on it throughout. .

Much different than the lumbering jams of
Alasehir are the drenched ethno-drones of Alumbrados.
Featuring Bardo Pond's John & Michael Gibbons
on guitar, sitar, cumbas and various percussive instruments
as well as Michael Zanghi and Aaron Igler with
additional electronics and percussion. Alumbrados is
a beautiful, rhythmic and tremendously arranged psychedelic
experience.

The
first 2000 in the deluxe package are now sold out. The jewel
box edition is now available for a lower price.
Over the last couple of years Ocean has established
themselves as an unparalleled current in the east coast metal
scene. Here Where Nothing Grows is their debut full length
album of 3 rogue waves clocking in at a full 65 fathoms. This
is a slow ancient doom harnessing the deep low end drone of
Sunn 0))), Burzum's screams, the crushing heaviness
of Buried At Sea, and even the art rock of Mogwai.
Here Where Nothing Grows was originally recorded by a
physically and emotionally exhausted Ocean at Volume
Studios in Chicago with Sanford Parker (Buried
At Sea/Pelican) at the tail end of a self destructive mini
tour.... |

Earth/KK
Null was originally released as a limited edition of 660
split color vinyl tour lp sold on their European tour together
in 2003. (The vinyl edition now fetches rather large sums on
internet auction sites) But forget about collector prices, this
is a split release from two massive historic figures in the
international underground. Earth has singularly created
their own metal genre with followers like Sunn O))),Khanate,
Ocean, Boris and many others. KK Null is one
of the most significant figures in underground Japan playing
in legendary groups like Absolut Null Punkt and Zeni
Geva. Artwork by Stephen O'Malley |
