Hototogisu - Some Blood Will Stick
imprec106 - CD - $11.99
Hototogisu is Matthew Bower (Skullflower/Sunroof!) and
Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards). They've been laying down billowing
sheets of tetonic guitar drone-noise since 2003 with the thickest
possible helpings of vocals and electronics.
Some Blood Will Stick is a collection of tracks from their ultra-limited
self produced label Heavy Blossom. Songs were taken from Swoon Scream
(2004) and Awful Symmetry (2005) with one additional track. What
makes this disc more than a simple re-release is the extraordinary
scalpel re-editing by Matthew Bower and the crushing and invigorating
mastering by Scott Hull at Visceral Sound making this one of the
heaviest and most beautiful Hototogisu releases.

.On this
double cd The Hototogisu masterfully create a dense sediment
of tetonic drone with the thickest layers of guitar, vocals
and electronics. Elaborately arranged, The Hototogisu are
obviously season sonic travelers, featuring the legendary Matthew
Bower (Skullflower, Sunroof!) and Marcia
Bassett (Double Leopards).
Ghosts Of The Sun is one enormous composition, nearing
2 hours in length, unfolded and nailed together in 7 movements.
Starting with a slow drone electronic crawl and climaxing with
crackling bone percussion buried howls of haunted minds,
Ghosts Of The Sun cries out from beneath an earthquake of
guitar feedback and distorion. Ghosts Of The Sun compresses
eternity, from the creation of humanity to it's own destruction,
into 7 parts on one double album. This is epic and total sonic
overload, by way of The Hototogisu. |

Welcome
Home is less of a homecoming and more of a coming out for
Carlos Giffoni, a highly respected and active NYC collaborator
who typically shares the stage and records with the likes of
Jim O'Rourke, Nels Cline, Chris Corsano,
John Duncan, Massimo, Thurson Moore and
many others. Giffoni has long been the experimentalists
experimentalist and now on Welcome Home, his first official
full length, finds him center stage where he belongs. |

O Si
Amos A Essere Duas Umbras? is comprised of two epic, deeply
meditative, spiritual and transcendental compositions. Track
one, titled "Ses Aintro e mene finzas Si Ses In
S'Atter'Ala E Su Mundu" is the very first solo track
Kawabata has ever recorded on an acoustic guitar. Filtered
through 3 reverb units and a single delay this epic acoustic
track starts off droning but quickly builds with reverb drenched
and finger picked momentum light years away from any of Kawabata's
solo guitar work.
"...Weaving shimmering phrases and drones,
Makoto
brings to mind the soundscapes of Robert Fripp's more
recent solo releases, especially Fripp's collaboration
with Jeffrey Fayman, A Temple in the Clouds..."

"'Out of Norway comes the most exciting
noise LP I've heard to date. These two women romp thru stimulating
noise compositions fresh and clean w/ a distinct Scandinavian
frost. But there's always an undercurrent of warm embrace,
sweet and masterful.' -- Thurston Moore. Already an incontestable
figure of the Scandinavian music scene, Maja Ratkje follows
the release of her stunning first solo album, Voice (Rune
Grammaphone), with Fe-Mail.
Together with fellow Spunk-ette Hild Sofie Tafjord, Ratkje
improvises with analogue electronic gear, samplers, voice,
harmonica, and miscellaneous acoustic instruments to shape
a more defined and delicate, if such a word can in any way
define the realm in which Fe-mail evolve, series of soundscapes."

Carlos
Giffoni, Nels Cline, Thurston Moore & Lee Ranaldo
Infinite possibilities are explored as the signature styles
of each of the group members create moments of tension, peace,
violence, and run trough every possible range of emotions. psychodelic
tunnels of sound echo trough endless guitar lines, minimalism
and maximalism both present in one moment, there are no solos
and no selfishness, as 4 combine to create an unbeliabavle 40+
minute piece. A document of pure sonic exploration of a moment
in time that will never be repeated by 4 of the most respected
experimentalist of our day.
